PARENT - ADOLESCENT PSYCHOTHERAPY GROUP

An on-going psychotherapy group for adolescents exhibiting symptoms of anxiety and depression. These include changes in eating and/or sleeping habits, feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, poor grades, withdrawing from friends and family, crying, irritability, mood changes and/or talk of suicide.

The group will provide adolescents a safe and nurturing environment in which they can identify feelings, understand the situations that trigger these feelings, and learn healthy ways to express them.

Participants will be encouraged to explore and discover healthy and self-affirming behaviors. During the group, adolescents will learn to:

  • Identify personal strengths
  • Challenge distorted, negative view of themselves
  • Express feelings openly
  • Identify stressors in daily life
  • Connect with support systems in their lives

Parental involvement is an essential part of the treatment process. The adolescent will attend the group weekly. Parents will participate in the group on a regular and scheduled basis.
