Transitions by Ellen Kieffer

All transitions begin with the self: self reaching beyond limitation; self longing for growth; self seeking out reinvention, discovery, promise, and hope for greater understanding. Self craves the exhilaration of change. That process of change, however, is a battleground of ideas. Change is that area in our lives, conscious or subconscious, where ideas and notions collide and compete for supremacy in the redefined self.
Each of us possess a fluid nature; always in motion. When life changes approach us, they are like pebbles cast into a still pond. The initial impact may be small, even insignificant, but no part of the individual can hide from the ripples that impact sends out. Those concentric circles of disturbance carry with them the hope of a new beginning and growth, as well as the fear of failure and loss. Ideas of good and evil permeate the self, as the psyche seeks to prioritize and define, to strike a balance, an equilibrium.
No matter what thoughts and notions cloud our thinking, change is good. Doubt tells us otherwise. Doubt tells us to fear the energy on the other side. It tells us that we are incapable of achieving our goals. It tells us we are foolish. Doubt is the voice of failure. Doubt is the wall blocking our transitional path.
Dealing with doubt is a positive step. As each of us tears down the barrier between the now and the new, we must face our demons; recognize them but not yield to them. When we dismantle the walls of doubt, we step into inspiration. Energy infuses us with new ideas, new passions, new hopes and possibilities. The upheaval of transition strengthens the self with renewed confidence. In that confidence lies the knowledge that all things are possible. This harmony allows us to stretch our arms wide and tilt our heads toward the heavens and say "Thank you" for the wonder of being alive, the wonder of growth, the power of change. That resolution draws upon the transitional experience to bolster the self.
We are reborn through change. We are purified and refined. Because we are transitional beings, we are not content with our accomplishments for long. We continue to grow and seek out new challenges. More transitions await, new challenges beckon. And we will welcome them with open arms.
